Tension is mounting in Sowutuom in Accra after a Nigerian, Peter Thompson, allegedly stabbed a 27-year-old Ghanaian to death on Thursday.

The incident happened after the Nigerian accused the Ghanaian of stealing his mobile phone. Thompson is currently in Police custody but some Ghanaian youth in the area have vowed to attack all Nigerians in the community.

The Accra regional Police Command has since deployed a heavy armed police unit to the area to avert possible reprisal attacks.

“The Regional Police Command has deployed a huge police presence in Sowutuom to curb that development,” Deputy Regional PRO of the Ghana Police Service, Inspector Kwabena Danso, said on Saturday, August 19.

In an interview with Citi FM Inspector Danso said “the police is in firm control of the situation.
