Insecurity: Senate in close door session with Service Chiefs, Ministers

The Senate on Tuesday went into a close door session to take briefs from Service Chiefs and some Ministers on the general state of security in the country.

The closed-door session followed a motion moved by Senate Leader, Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti).

Those at the meeting include National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, Ministers of Defence, Police Affairs, Interior and Finance, as well as all Service Chiefs, the Inspector General of Police, and the Directors General of DSS and Nigeria Intelligence Agency.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio had before the close door session said that the ministers were invited because they supervise the finances of the security agencies.

He added that the Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun would provide insight into how the funding of security matters could be improved to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.

Akpabio said the interaction would afford the lawmakers the opportunity to hear directly from the service chiefs and ministers, and agree on solutions to the security challenges in the country.
