Borno: Fire outbreak in Gamboru market, shops, property worth millions destroyed

A fire outbreak gutted the famous Gamboru market in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The cause of the fire outbreak is yet to be ascertained. Reports said it took the efforts of vigilante groups, including the Civilian JTF and residents, to put off the fire.

Borno State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) confirmed the development on its Facebook page when the Director-General of the Agency Dr Barkindo Muhammad Saidu, visited the scene of the incident this morning.

“The fire incident which started in the early hours of Sunday 12/11/2023 burnt down shops, although the casualties is yet to be ascertained”, the agency posted.

The fire incident is barely nine months after the famous Maiduguri Monday Market was razed by fire, destroying shops and goods worth billions of naira.
