China is ready to develop collaboration with Tonga in a variety of industries as part of the Belt and Road Initiative, according to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Xi also said in a phone chat with Tonga’s King Tupou VI that China would provide economic and scientific help to Tonga without any political ties attached.
Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, he added, China and Tonga have improved political mutual confidence and accomplished beneficial exchanges and cooperation in a variety of spheres.
Xi stated that since the beginning of COVID-19, the two countries have stood together and fought together to combat the epidemic through thick and thin.
China, he claims, has a tremendous regard for him.
China, he says, welcomes Tonga’s steadfast adherence to the one-China policy.
He urged the countries to take their comprehensive strategic collaboration to new heights and to create a community with a common future for humanity.
China will continue to develop agric-tech cooperation projects and offer the necessary help for Tonga’s agricultural and fishery goods to access the Chinese market, according to Xi.
China invites Tongan businesses to participate at the China International Import Expo and pledges to continue to assist Tonga in its fight against the epidemic to the best of its ability, according to Xi.
Xi added that China had been actively carrying out a win-win cooperation with Pacific Island countries, and was willing to share poverty reduction experience and deepen development cooperation with Tonga and other Pacific Island countries.
He promised to help Pacific Island countries to cope better with major public health incidents and natural disasters.
He said that China would set up a China-Pacific Island countries cooperation centre of poverty reduction and development, and prepare for building a China-Pacific Island countries reserve of emergency supplies.
