Arsenal break incredible record set by Invincibles after Manchester United win

Arsenal have broken an incredible record set by the Invincibles after beating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

The Gunners’ recent record at the Theatre of Dreams had been poor but they claimed a crucial victory courtesy of Leandro Trossard’s solitary strike in the first half.

Arsenal didn’t get out of second gear but have now ensured that the Premier League title race with Manchester City will go down to the final day.

But while it wasn’t pretty, the result means the Gunners have now won 27 of their 37 games in the Premier League this term.

That number eclipses the 26 wins collected by Arsene Wenger’s great side, who went the whole season without losing a game in 2003/04.

That legendary squad, featuring greats like Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Robert Pires, drew 12 games and racked up 90 points across the 38 games.

It is of course the 20-year anniversary of that achievement and Arsenal fans will be hoping that the feat can be replicated once again.

But they are needing a favour from rivals Spurs, who are City’s opponents in their game in hand on Tuesday.

A win for City will see them overtake Arsenal by two points and put them in the driving seat for the finale, while a draw will put them level on points but behind Mikel Arteta’s men by three goals on goal difference.

“We are really happy to win,” Arteta told Sky Sports after the win.

“You want to play better, especially with the things that we didn’t do with the second half because there was so much space to hurt them.

“But it’s another step the team has to take when you come to these stages to be even more dominant.

Arsenal host Everton on the final day, while City welcome West Ham at the Etihad Stadium.
