A 40-year-old woman, Yaa Boatemaa, has been arrested for allegedly poisoning her 3-year-old daughter at Frafraline, a farming community at Akomadan in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Police were called in to investigate after the little girl, Abena Theresa, was pronounced dead by medics at the Nkekaasu Hospital on Friday, June 15, 2018.
What triggered the incident is not immediately known as family members of the suspect are tight-lipped on the matter.
Akomadan District Police Commander, Superintendent Mahamud Yusif who narrated the incident to XYZ News said the suspect has since been detained and is assisting police investigations.
He also noted that she was being prepared for court on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, residents of Akomadan who have heard of the matter are in total shock following the death of the little girl. Some of them who spoke to XYZ News are calling for stiffer punishment for the culprit to serve as a deterrent for others.
