According to a statement by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), the suspension of Bawa is to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.

The statement, signed by the Director of Information in SGF Office, Willie Bassey, this followed weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against the erstwhile Chairman of the anti-graft agency.

The statement also directed Bawa to immediately handover the affairs of his office to the Director, Operations in the Commission, Abdulkarim Chukkol, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Bawa was reported to have had a meeting with President Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, hours before his indefinite suspension from office.
