France, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States embassies in Libya have urged “all Libyan actors” to ensure that the parliamentary and presidential elections scheduled for December 24 take place.
The decision was reached in a joint statement issued late Sunday by the embassies.
According to the statement, “all parties should recognize that now is the time to engage and finalize the electoral framework, taking into account all legitimate concerns of the Libyan people.”
It emphasized that such elections, as determined in the Roadmap of the UN-sponsored Libyan Political Dialogue Forum in November 2020 and stated in UN Security Council Resolution 2570, are a necessary step in further stabilizing and unifying the country.
The embassies said that the results of such elections should be respected by all.
