Nigeria voters express frustration over non-appearance of their names on INEC list

Some voters in satellite towns of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), have expressed frustration over the non-appearance of their names on the INEC’s register.

Some of them who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) said their names were not in the commission’s list pasted in their polling units.

They described the development as frustrating and discouraging.

Mrs Agnes Iguben, a voter at the Redeem Church polling unit 024 at Nyanya, Abuja, said she had looked for her name on the list pasted and around other polling units without success.

“I came out around 9 a.m. thinking that I will finish immediately to continue with my other activities at home.

“My name is not on the list pasted in my unit and they said you will have to copy your number on the list so that it will be easy for INEC officials to locate your name on their own list.

“This is discouraging,’’ she said.

Another voter, Mr Ndubisi Okeke, seen at polling unit 001, market square, Nyanya, said that INEC should have made the process less tedious.

“I came out in high spirit just to make sure I exercise my franchise for the first time in this country but the situation I am seeing here is frustrating.

“I have been turning around looking for polling unit 007 which is mine but I haven’t seen it.

“I am ready to vote today no matter the frustration because we need to get it right now for our country to be good again,’’ he said.

Mr Isah Abu, another voter said that although he didn’t see his name on the INEC register pasted in his polling unit 026, his name was on the list manned by INEC officials.

“I was able to vote because I decided to ask questions.

“When I asked INEC officials, they said I should wait and when they eventually attended to me, my name was on their main register.

“People should not be in a hurry to go home saying they didn’t see their names on the register.

“They should ask the INEC officials,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the elderly, physically challenged persons and pregnant women were given priority to vote by both security agents and INEC officials. (NAN)
