United Kingdom claimed terrorists may carry out an assault in Uganda, but authorities say there is no reason to raise the threat level.
The UK government issued a statement on Thursday urging citizens to exercise extra caution in busy and public venues such as hotels, transportation hubs, restaurants, and pubs, as well as during significant gatherings such as athletic or religious events.
“Attacks could be indiscriminate, especially in foreigner-friendly areas. The statement reads, “UK Counter Terrorism Policing has information and guidance on remaining safe overseas and what to do in the case of a terrorist attack.”
Uganda Police spokesman Fred Enanga confirmed the presence of sleeper cells in the country, adding that efforts to dismantle them are ongoing.
“Despite the emerging sleeper cells our terror alert levels are not elevated yet,” Mr Enanga said.
Although the UK did not mention which terrorist group is behind the threat, Uganda security agencies recently accused the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels of attempting to carry out terror attacks.
