US military hid a 2019 bombing in Syria that killed scores of civilians, including women and children as revealed by a recent investigation by The New York Times.
The hit, which took place in the town of Baghuz, was one of the largest civilian death occurrences in the campaign against the Islamic State, but the US military has never publicly acknowledged it, according to the report.
According to the New York Times, an early battle damage assessment soon after the hit revealed that the number of deaths was actually around 70.
The dead toll, which included dozens of women and children, was promptly reported to military officials.
The strike was flagged by a legal official as a possible war crime that needed to be investigated.
The military, on the other hand, took steps to conceal the devastating strike at practically every turn, according to the report.
“The death toll was reduced, and the reports were sanitized, classified, and delayed.”
“The blast site was bulldozed by coalition forces commanded by the United States.
“And top executives were not notified,” according to the article.
