Tanzania and Nigeria battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of their 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying fixture at the Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam.

The Falconets took a deserved lead through Chioma Olise at the hour mark.

The hosts battled back, with Usnath Ubamba netting the equaliser in the 71st minute.

The return leg will hold at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, next Sunday.

The winner of the two-legged contest will proceed to the fourth round.

The Falconets have qualified for every edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup since the inaugural edition in Canada in 2002.

Four teams will represent Africa at the biennial competition that will be hosted by Colombia.
