The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has thrown its weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s stance against corruption in the country. While commending the resolve of the President against corruption within his cabinet, the group called for a thorough investigation into the corruption scandal rocking the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kole Omololu, the mainstream Yoruba group harped on the urgent need for an extensive probe to uncover the alleged financial mismanagement within the Ministry.Afenifere expressed dismay over the development and urged Tinubu to broaden the investigation to other ministries and scrutinize the companies suspected of receiving inflated consultancy fees. The group which maintained that corruption is detrimental to the development of the country, warned that Nigeria will continue to battle with unending challenges unless decisive measures are taken to combat the menace.“We call for a comprehensive investigation into the financial transactions associated with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, as well as a forensic audit of the ministry and the companies involved in the excessively inflated consultancy’s verification fees.“Afenifere raises concerns about the expenditure of almost 4 billion naira solely for verifying beneficiaries and questions how much money will be left to be disbursed to the verified beneficiaries from the limited resources of the country,” the group said.
