The agreement was signed in the Tanzanian capital Dodoma between Tanzania’s Minister for Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training, Joyce Ndalichako, and her South Sudanese counterpart, Deng Deng Hoc.
Speaking shortly after the signing of the agreement, Ndalichako said the South Sudanese government sought assistance from Tanzania after introducing Kiswahili in its school curricula.
“The South Sudanese government has asked us (Tanzania) to assist them in training teachers after they introduced Kiswahili lessons in their country,’’ she said.
The signing of the agreement, according to the minister, will provide a window of employment opportunities to Tanzanian teachers in South Sudan.
For his part, the South Sudanese Education Minister said the introduction of Kiswahili lessons to his country was important since the country has joined the East Africa Community (EAC).
Other members of the EAC are Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi. (Xinhua/NAN)
