Tanzanian honours first woman to reach Mount summit Everest peak

Rawan Dakik, the first Tanzanian woman to reach the peak of Mount Everest, has been been appointed the country’s Tourism Ambassador.

The 20-year old Ms Dakik, who performed the feat on May 25, is also the youngest African to summit Mount Everest, described as Earth’s highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. 

The announcement of her appointment as Tourism Ambassador was made by Tanzania’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism today.

Deputy Minister for Tourism in the ministry, Mary Masanja, received Rawan who made Tanzania proud by reaching the peak of Mount Everest, with a height of 8,848.86m above sea level.

Ms Dakik was named ambassador when she arrived at the Kilimanjaro International Airport in northern Tanzania from Nepal.
