Suswam solicits prayers to win PDP National Chairmanship seat

Sen. Gabriel Suswam has solicited the prayers of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful to enable him to clinch the position of the national chairman of the party.

Suswam made the appeal on Thursday in Makurdi when he addressed PDP stakeholders.

The former Benue governor stated that the exercise to replace the former national chairman of the party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, would be a contest.

The PDP national chairmanship contender said that relevant stakeholders would meet and chose someone among the people jostling for the position.

“God has always been with me; He will surely be by my side, and I will actualise my political ambition.

“The ward congresses were supposed to be conducted in Benue in July, but unfortunately electoral materials were not sent to some local government areas (LGAs).

“In some LGAs where the exercise took place, the result was not forwarded to the party’s state secretariat.

“Such an act was borne out of pure desperation,” he stated.

Mrs Margaret Icheen, member of the PDP Board of Trustees, expressed concern over the polarised because some elements of other political parties infiltrated it and were bent on destroying it at all costs.

Icheen, however, assured that the party would definitely correct all the anomalies and bounce back.

The immediate past PDP chairman in Benue, Mr John Ngbede, said that the PDP they had recently was no longer the party of their dreams.

Ngbede blamed the leaders of the party, particularly the ones in Benue, for bringing the party to where it was.

He expressed worry that the bad elements in the party wanted to push Suswam out of the PDP.

Sen. Orker Jev also expressed worry that some people in the national secretariat were frustrating the party in the state.
