South Sudan President, Salva Kiir Mayardit, sacked his Finance and Interior ministers by presidential decree on Friday night.

Mr Kiir removed Paul Mayom Akech, who had served in the Ministry of Interior since March last year during the formation of the revived government, according to an announcement on the state-run South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation.

General Mahmoud Solomon Agok, who formerly served as the Governor of Western Lakes State and in the National Security Service, has taken his post.

Athian Diing Athian, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, was fired by the President and replaced by Agak Achuil Lual.

President Kiir sacked Salvatore Garang Mabiordiit in September last year, citing a deteriorating economy as the reason for his dismissal.

Mr Agak was the undersecretary and technical advisor in the Ministry of Trade before being appointed to the Finance department. He had also worked for the Ministry of Finance as the 1st Undersecretary.

The President did not give reasons for the dismissals save for referring to his constitutional powers which allow him to appoint and remove public servants.
