One of Mali’s former President Ibrahim Keïta’s son, Karim, is wanted by Interpol over the disappearance of a journalist in 2016.

The local journalist, Birama Touré, went missing after reaching out to Karim for a comment in a story he was covering that would have been damaging to his reputation.

Mr Karim sued the journalist’s employer, Le Sphinx, for linking him to the disappearance.

The court in Mali dismissed the case but the magazine’s editor went into exile.

Mr Karim escaped arrest by soldiers who ousted his father in August 2020.

Keita has lived in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, since the military coup that overthrew his father in August 2020.

The investigative journalist had been working for the Bamako weekly Le Sphinx in the months before his disappearance.

He has not been seen since January 29, 2016, according to his family and the director of the magazine, Adama Drame.
