Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hussein Roble, has urged the business community to cooperate with humanitarian measures to aid his countrymen who are suffering from the prolonged drought.
“There are no words powerful enough to express my gratitude for the honorable role the business community has played in helping to alleviate the country’s pressing humanitarian difficulties,” Prime Minister Roble remarked.
“I know you have been helpful to your vulnerable people in the past,” he continued, emphasizing the importance of coming together to re-energize the drought-fighting activities.
He was speaking to a group of Somali businesses assembled in Mogadishu for the launch of My Bank’s local branch.
On the same day, the PM named a committee to tackle the worsening drought situation in country, strategically composed of seven ministries led by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and assisted by the ministries of Finance, Planning, Health, Agriculture, Information, and Water and Energy.
“I am hereby urging the committee to act speedily by quickly generating a study that shows the needs and measures to mitigate them,” Roble stated.
