Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has expressed the need for unity and collective action among governors of the North-East to tackle the challenges facing the subregion.
This is as he commended the governors for their camaraderie, sense of purpose, and commitment to regional development.
The vice president spoke while commissioning the newly reconstructed and remodeled ultramodern Government House in Bauchi on Saturday.
He said, “I want to take this opportunity to commend our governors for their camaraderie, sense of purpose, and commitment. Our governors are united in the common cause of repositioning the North-East subregion.
“There is no room for conflict among us. We are all united, and it is time for us to come together as a single unit to address the monumental challenges facing our subregion.”
While commissioning the Government House, Shettima commended Governor Bala Mohammed for having the foresight and determination to embark on the project in spite of the paucity of funds available to the government.
He urged governors from the Northeastern subregion to prioritize infrastructure and economic growth initiatives in their collective struggle to establish legacy projects in their respective states.
He stressed that effective leadership required a conducive working environment that would facilitate the formulation and implementation of laudable policies and programmes.
“This will facilitate effective service delivery to the people of the state, charging leaders to always prioritise developmental projects so as to block the infrastructural gaps in their respective states for development,” he added.
Speaking earlier, Governor Bala Mohammed, stated that the former Government House was characterized by inadequate space, delayed structures, and an unfavourable working environment, hence the need to reconstruct the seat of power under his administration’s urban renewal initiative.
Mohammed said further that with the development, his dream of giving the people of the state a brand new seat of government had been actualised.
He stated that it had been part of his development agenda since 2019, when he was first elected and sworn in as governor of the state.
DAILY POST reports that the event coincided with the 10th meeting of the North-East Governor’s Forum.
It had in attendance of governors from the northeastern subregion, former governors of the state, members of the National Assembly, and emirs from within and outside the state, among others.
