Association of Bursars of Nigerian Universities (ABNU), claimed that some of its members have been sent to Ghana to examine the university revenue generation methodology.

Dr Victor Imagbe, the association’s National Chairman, revealed the information in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the association’s ongoing Annual Conference and Award on Monday in Abuja.

In the face of declining statutory allocations, Imagbe, who is also the Bursar of the University of Benin, said the action was part of the association’s attempts to upgrade funding for Nigerian higher schools.

He stated that, in addition to looking for ways to boost the schools’ revenue creation, the organization has begun vigorous orientation for its members on how to access intervention funds of TETFUND.

Bursars, as managers of the university system, he added, have used their talents to ensure industrial harmony and a peaceful environment by interacting with all unions on a regular basis.

According to him, the honors given to the Federation’s Accountant General, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, and TETFUND’s Executive Secretary, Prof Suleiman Bogoro, were intended to honor them and act as a motivator for others.

” We have sent delegation to Ghana to understudy the revenue generation in their universities system.

” We need to collaborate to ensure that we have world class universities. We have also been collaborating with universities outside the country.

” The conference will give all the bursars to understand how to access funds available at TETFUND and the reports they are supposed to be monitoring and proper management of the intervention of the funds that TETFUND is managing.

” Bursars have always been having meetings to address some of the issues within the university system.

” Apart from funding, which is a major challenge in the system, we want to look at how you can generate funds, attract investment and intervention funding to universities.”

Imagbe said the association would continue to ensure a peaceful environment.

“That is why we always have meetings with all the unions in schools to give them adequate information, so that they will not hold government to ransom.”
