Disturbed by the killing of his constituents in Kwande and its environs by the herdsmen, a member of the House of Representatives for Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Terseer Ugbor has called for collaboration by all stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional rulers, policymakers and governments at all levels to end the incessant killings in Benue State.
A statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Fred Dagu, said the federal lawmaker, condemned the assault by suspected Fulani invaders on the people of Udeku village, Mbaikyor council ward of Turan resulting in the death of three individuals, leaving numerous people injured, and displacing entire communities.
He expressed sadness over the recurring and distressing incidents within the constituency, attributing them to the incursions by the Fulani invaders.
According to the statement, Ugbor expressed worry that the people of Kwande have been crying to the state government for support but lamented that so far little succor has come their way.
The House of Representatives member, appealed to security agencies to move in and immediately quell the volatile situation in the constituency. He also called on the government to provide relief materials to assist his displaced constituents, who are currently dispersed and without sustenance.
The lawmaker, who expressed his readiness to collaborate with security experts and stakeholders with ideas on the most effective approach to curbing insecurity in the constituency, also bemoaned that the people he represents were being killed senselessly and affirmed his unwavering willingness to pursue any means within his constitutional authority to end the killings in his constituency.
He admonished his people to exercise caution and remain highly vigilant during this period of relentless attacks, assuring them that he would continue to champion and advocate for their interests at the National Assembly through relevant channels.
“The Honourable member is in talks with the Benue North-East Senator, Sen. Emmanuel Udende to visit the affected communities with a message of hope and support to the local vigilante to confront this menace in the coming days”, the statement added.
