President Muhammadu Buhari is set to address the 76th Session of the UN General Assembly’s high-level General Debate on Friday at the UN headquarters in New York according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
During the morning session, the Nigerian leader would deliver his address to other world leaders around 9 a.m. (around 2 p.m. Nigerian time).
Buhari will address the Assembly’s theme as well as other global challenges.
“Building Resilience Through Hope – To Recover from COVID-19, Rebuild Sustainably, Respond to the Needs of the Planet, Respect People’s Rights, and Revitalize the United Nations” is the theme for the 76th session.
The event on Friday will also feature speeches from officials from The United Nations.
Leaders from The Gambia, South Sudan, the Republic of Benin, Senegal, and Germany, among others, will speak at Friday’s session.
The Nigerian president has held bilateral discussions with a number of foreign delegation leaders and heads of international development organizations.
Buhari spoke with Burundi’s President, Evariste Ndayishimiye, as well as Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the World Trade Organization’s Director-General, and attended the UN Food Systems Summit.
Nigerian officials also met with Her Majesty, Queen Maxima Zorreguieta of the Netherlands in a bilateral meeting and took part in a hybrid High-Level event titled “Transformative Actions for Nature and People.”
The President’s delegation had also attended other high-level events, such as the 20th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action on Reparations, Racial Justice, and Equality for People of African Descent.
Among other things, the group attended a High Level Plenary Meeting to mark and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.
