The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Shendam Local Government Council, Dr. Kemi Nicholas Nshe, has called on residents to put aside past divisions and work together for the community’s progress.
Speaking at the official launch of his campaign at the Shendam mini-stadium, he emphasized that peace and unity are essential for sustainable development in the area.
“Our governor has come to unite Plateau State and bring smiles to the people. The unfortunate events of the past should now remain in the past. If we had engaged in such acts, some people wouldn’t have enjoyed the privilege of being elected,” Dr. Nshe stated.
He urged PDP members to support the party’s mission of fostering stability and progress in Shendam.
Reflecting on his previous tenure as Chairman of Shendam Local Government Area, Dr. Nshe recounted his administration’s accomplishments and assured residents that his return would mean a continuation and expansion of development projects.
“I want to assure you all that we are committed to the progress of Shendam. There are numerous projects that have been accomplished, and many more are in the pipeline,” he affirmed.
Dr. Nshe highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects such as the construction of the long-neglected Kalong-Yelwa road and the newly opened Peshiep-Dongwan road, which has significantly improved access to rural areas. He also announced a 16-billion-naira investment plan aimed at enhancing Shendam’s agricultural value chain, describing the initiative as a transformative effort to make the region a hub for agricultural production.
“The arrangement has already been concluded, and with the African Development Bank and other partners set to come and stay in Shendam, we will be farming rice three times a year,” Dr. Nshe revealed. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the people of Shendam, stating, “This government cares for the people of Shendam. We have no reason to fail, and no reason not to support it.”
During the campaign launch, which drew a large turnout of PDP supporters from various wards, Dr. Nshe also visited the Long-Gamai of Shendam, HRH Baga Martins Bala Shieldas III, to seek royal blessings. He pledged to collaborate with traditional leaders and stakeholders to promote peace and development in the community.
Addressing the crowd, Dr. Nshe urged residents to endorse the PDP’s developmental agenda and maintain peace during the electoral process. He encouraged them to focus on the party’s achievements and the future prospects for Shendam, as the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) prepares for the local government elections on October 9, 2024.
Supporters at the event expressed optimism about Dr. Nshe’s prospects in the polls, citing his track record and leadership attributes as key factors. “Kemi is a man of the people. He has touched lives, whether indigene of the land or not,” stated James Deshi, a loyal party member. “I’m confident that Kemi is going to win this election because he has proven himself as a leader who delivers” he added.
