Our men didn’t cause Jibiya town incident – Customs

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone B says its men did not cause the incident in Jibiya town, Katsina State.

The service revealed this in a statement signed by SC Isah Suleiman that was made available to newsmen on Monday in Kaduna.

The statement reads as: “I am aware that we have a team along the Jibiya Border that is within 40km radius and the officials of the Nigerian Customs Service didn’t cause the incident you are referring to as alleged; rather it was caused by the reckless driving of the driver of that J5 bus you are referring to. But some unscrupulous elements are hell-bent on twisting the narration. “

The statement further revealed that” It is a fact that smugglers are unhappy with our resolve to ensure that illicit items do not find their way into the country. These smugglers are looking for any opportunity to smear the NCS name through a false campaign built on mischief.

“We are always presenting the Service of repute to the world and we sympathize with the families of the victims, as an investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the incident in collaboration with relevant agencies. Whoever is found guilty will face the consequences of his actions”, statement added.

However, “we are saying that, all campaigns of calumny by smugglers will not deter the Unit from enforcing the directives of the Federal Government. We are more determined to make the Zone unbearable for smugglers”.
