……Onyeche was committed to the development of Agbor Ebie, Chairman, NDDC Governing Board

The Chairman, Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development (NDDC), Mr. Chiedu Ebie, has expressed sadness over the sudden and untimely demise of Chief Lawrence Onyeche, a palace Chief and incumbent President General, Agbor Community Union (ACU), noting that he was a perfect statesman committed to Agbor Community Development.

In a heartfelt condolence message on Tuesday, Ebie described the incident as a huge loss to not only his immediate family but entire Agbor Community and Ika Nation. Aside from holding Ika culture and tradition at a very high esteem, the late PG of Agbor Community Union was desirous of building a more culturally healthy Agbor Nation where peace, unity and justice shall reign supreme as he served the community with all his strength.

He observed that between 2016 till date when he piloted the affairs of the ACU, Agbor community recorded landmark achievements. His relentless promotion of peace and unity among all the sociocultural organizations in Agbor have not only given the community an enviable position in the state but made the leadership shoe he left behind too big for a would be successor to fit in.

The NDDC Chairman further stated that beyond his lofty community development efforts and promotion of Ika culture, Chief Lawrence Onyeche, was a man of many parts. According to him, the now rested community leader was a civil servant with the Delta state government where he retired as a director. Also, at some point in his life time, he functioned as President General, Delta State Corporative Federation as well as member, National Corporative Movement of Nigeria.

‘I specifically recall how in January 2023, he led the executive members of ACU, Agbor Palace Chiefs and other prominent Agbor indigenes, to a courtesy visit to my residence in Agbor’.The congratulatory message which he personally signed and presented to me during the referenced visit, reads in part, ‘this appointment is in no way a surprise to us because you deserved it especially, with your vast experience with the government of Delta State, first as commissioner and second, as Secretary to the Government. We have been observing you, right from your first time in the service of the Delta State Government where you excelled greatly. We have seen you to be a very reliable man, an industrious, intelligent and a wise gentleman whose future in the Nigeria field of politics is very promising.”
