Onsi Sawiris, Egyptian billionaire dies at 90

Onsi Sawiris, the father of a family of billionaire businessmen who founded the Orascom group of global corporations, died on Tuesday at the age of 90, according to Sherif Doss, chairman of the Coptic Christian General Authority.

According to report, Onsi Sawiris graduated from Cairo University with a degree in engineering and founded his building company in 1950. He founded Orascom General Contracting and Trade in 1976, which subsequently evolved into Orascom Construction Industries.

His company is one of the largest road and canal construction companies in the country. In the 1980s and 1990s, it branched out into tourism, hotels, computer, and mobile phone services.

Naguib, Nassef, and Samih Sawiris are the sons of Onsi Sawiris, a well-known Egyptian businessman.

Forbes also revealed that, Onsi Sawiris has a net worth of 993.8 million dollars, while his son Nassef is Egypt’s richest person with a fortune of 7.1 billion dollars.
