Ogun govt demolishes shanties along old Sagamu, tollgate road


Ogun State Government on Thursday, commenced the demolition of all shanties and makeshift structures at the old Sagamu Tollgate along the Lagos – Benin Expressway.

The exercise was part of the state’s continuous efforts at having a greener, cleaner, healthier and safer environment as well as discouraging street trading.

Speaking during the exercise, Farook Akintunde, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor and Chairman of the State Taskforce on Environmental Compliance & Enforcement, explained that the exercise aimed to create a cleaner, greener, safer, and healthier environment while also deterring street selling.

Akintunde disclosed that the street traders had been given enough notice to leave the setback.

He warned the traders not to disobey government orders by returning, adding that the government will soon begin landscaping and beautification of the area.
