NLC President, Joe Ajaero returns to Labour House after honouring police invitation

The President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has returned to the Labour House after honouring the invitation of the police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Thursday morning.

It was gathered that Mr. Ajaero was accompanied by human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, and others.

The police invitation had generated controversy, with the NLC and other labour unions accusing the Federal Government of attempting to intimidate labour leaders.

The labour leaders had mobilised union members and affiliate associations for a march to the police headquarters in Abuja.

According to the police authorities, Ajaero was invited to answer questions on his alleged involvement in terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony.

The invitation came after a night raid by the police on the NLC national secretariat in Abuja.

The NLC National Executive Council had earlier condemned the police action and described the allegations against Ajaero as trumped-up and politically motivated to silence organised labour. They had requested a postponement of Ajaero’s appearance, citing that the police invitation was too short.

Ajaero’s return to the Labour House marks the end of the police invitation, but the controversy surrounding the allegations and the police’s actions continues.
