The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), has given the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde Pt on the back for “toeing the path of professionalism” in the appointment a new General Manager of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS).
President and Chairman Governing Council, of the NIPR, Dr. Ike Neliaku, who made the commendation in a statement issued in Abuja today, noted that Governor Makinde had made “a professional decision” by appointing a seasoned Public Relations professional, Mr. Adelakun James Adegoke as the new GM for the state-owned broadcast station.
The rest of the statement by the NIPR President said:
“Part of leadership is the ability to identify individuals with sound professional standing and strategically engage them in their areas of specialties and competence for optimal value. Unfortunately, the case in Africa, including Nigeria, is that of leaders preferring quacks to professionals and choosing mediocrity over meritocracy.
“The Institute receives this appointment with excitement because Mr. Adelakun is a member of the PR profession that we can attest to his professional competence to deliver on his mandate.
“While we assure the Governor of our Institutional support to Mr. Adelakun James Adegoke and the Government of Oyo State, we would like to call on other State Governments to emulate such act that will add value to governance.”
