For Ukertor Gabriel Moti, notable Nigerian Professor of Public Administration specialising in Public Sector Management and Governance, this is indeed a season for national and international recognitions.

Barely two weeks after his appointment as Director of the Centre for Corruption Studies of the University of Abuja, Professor Moti has just bagged another important, this time at the international level.

His latest appointment is as member of the Accreditation Committee (AC) of the International Commission of Public Administration Education and Training (ICAPA).

The ICAPA, with headquarters in Brussels, Belgium, is an agency of the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (IASIA), which provides quality assurance services for education and training programs in Public Administration using the self-evaluation and site-visit Standards of Excellence for Public Administration Education and Training jointly developed by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN-DESA) and IASIA.

Professor Moti, who is of the Department of Public Administration, University of Abuja, is among 21 international experts appointed into the Committee.

The role of the Accreditation Committee, among other things, include adopting the accreditation criteria, constituting site-visit teams, deciding on accreditation of Schools, Departments and Institutes offering Public Administration programs especially in Europe, Asia, USA, the Middle East etc, and serving as the main pool of site reviewers on accreditation as well as submit annual plan and reports.

Moti’s appointment was conveyed in a letter dated January 21, 2021 and jointly signed by the Chairperson of the ICAPA, Dr. Najat Zarrouk, and Dr. Steve Troupin, ICAPA Secretariat.

This is coming closely on the heels of his appointment by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’ Allah, as Director of the university’s Centre for Corruption Studies.

The Centre, which is responsible for research in corruption issues, runs Workshops and Conferences, and grants certificates in corruption studies and governance and serves as a data bank for corruption issues for researchers and policy makers.

Professor Moti has been an active participant in various international conferences and an active member of the Kenya-based continental Public Administration forum, African Association for Public Administration and Management (AAPAM), where he serves as the Chief Editor of the African Journal of Public Administration and Management (AJPAM), a continental journal of the association.
