General Lucky Irabor, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, has guaranteed that the Nigerian Armed Forces will remain an ally of the Senegalese Armed Forces for the welfare of Sub-Saharan Africa.
On Wednesday in Abuja, Irabor provided the assurance at a cocktail party hosted by Defence Headquarters in honor of the visiting Inspector-General of the Senegalese Armed Forces.
He said the Senegalese military chief’s visit provided them with an opportunity to discuss topics of mutual concern to Nigeria and Senegal, as well as the West African sub-region as a whole.
He claimed that the two armed services had been cooperating well in the field of officer training in both Nigeria and Senegal.
“What I would like to leave with you is that the armed forces of Nigeria remains an ally of the Senegalese armed forces.
“I am sure your various interaction here in Nigeria might have given you along with members of your entourage a sense as to the hospitality that Nigeria and Nigerians give to her visitors.
“I will like to assure you that the very warm relationship that exist between our armed forces will be fostered under my leadership.
“As you go back, be rest assured of our renewed commitment to meeting the need of which we share the common interaction both in the past, today and of course looking ahead to the future,” he said.
Niang, the Inspector-General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, reacted by thanking the CDS for the kind welcome and hospitality he received throughout his tour.
Niang also stated that the Senegalese military is committed to strengthening relations with Nigeria for the sake of the people of both nations and Africa as a whole.
He hailed Nigeria’s military for establishing solid institutions across the country, noting that the country’s military remained a formidable power on the continent.
According to sources, the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, as well as representatives from other service chiefs and DHQ major staff officers, were present at the cocktail.
