The Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Turkey, Amb. Ismail Yusuf, has promised to promote Nigeria’s interest and further increase the existing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Yusuf made the commitment when he presented President Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey with his Letter of Credence at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.
Mrs Ibiyemi Robert-Ajiboye, the Minister, Political Matters at the Embassy of Nigeria in Ankara, made this known in a statement to the newsmen on Friday in Abuja.
Yusuf delivered President Muhammadu Buhari’s congratulations to Erdogan, expressing gratitude for Turkey’s unwavering support for the country and its people.
He did say, however, that he would use his position as ambassador to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in Nigeria’s best interests.
Erdogan in his remarks, offered to assist Nigeria in the fight against terrorism.
He told the ambassador to arrange a meeting between relevant officials from Nigeria and Turkey to work out possible areas of cooperation.
The presentation marked the formal accreditation of Yusuf, who was recently appointed along with other ambassadors and subsequently deployed to various countries.
Reports revealed that Yusuf, a career diplomat brings to his new post three decades of diplomatic experience.
