Nigeria records 471 new cases of COVID-19 infection

Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has revealed that COVID-19 infections in Nigeria have continued to surge, with the total number of cases reaching 178, 096 as of August 8.

Additional 471 illnesses were confirmed by NCDC, as announced it on its official website on Monday morning.

Lagos and Akwa-Ibom were recognized as the states leading the statewide spike.

The 471 additional infections were reported in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory, according to the CDC (FCT).

It was highlighted that Lagos State was an early hotspot for coronavirus and that it had continued to have some of the country’s highest cases.

According to the report, the state, which has an aggressive plan to combat the virus, reported the day’s highest infections, with 219 new cases, and had continued to do so.

According to the public health service, Akwa Ibom accounted for nearly half of all new COVID-19 Delta Variant illnesses countrywide, prompting the federal government to consider altering its vaccine distribution system to hot regions.

According to the health institute, the increase in cases was particularly noticeable in Akwa Ibom.

Despite the fact that the state had the highest rate of new infections, it was highlighted that the state had seen the highest rate of new infections in the past two weeks it, however, registered 102 cases.

Ondo (37), Oyo (33), Kwara (19), Rivers (16), Ekiti (15), Delta (14), Ogun (7), FCT (5), Niger (2), Edo (1), and Katsina (1) were among the others (1).

On Saturday, 291 people had recovered and were released from various isolation centers across the country, according to the report.

165,763 recovery have been registered countrywide in 36 states and the FCT, according to the agency.
