The Prime Minister of Niger Mr.Brigi Rafini has honoured the leader of Africa’s football governing body Ahmad Ahmad for championing the country’s hosting of the U20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) received the award on Sunday at the sidelines of the final of the tournament played in the capital Niamey.
The eight-team tournament was largely successful as Mali and Senegal battled for the title.
It was the first time Niger was hosting a continental football tournament as the cities of Niamey and Maradi hosted the seven strongest U20 sides in Africa.
The Prime Minister of Niger was full of praise for Ahmad as he presented the award to the CAF insisting the hosting of the tournament has put the country on the football map.
He was presented with a plague to Ahmad in the presence of the Niger FA President Djibrilla Hima and other dignitaries attending the final.
“Niger is grateful for the opportunity CAF gave us to host the rest of Africa. We have showcased our country to the world thanks to you Mr Ahamd,” Mr Rafini said.
Niger are seeking to improve their facilities to help them host bigger tournaments in future.
