NAPTIP drags man, 31 to court for rape


National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arraigned a 31 year old man, Emeka Akile before a Federal Capital Territory sitting in Apo, Abuja for alleged rape and having carnal knowledge of a 19 year old girl.

The accused was arrested by operatives of NAPTIP following a tip off from concerned Nigerians. The incident took place at Lugbe, a suburb of Abuja.

The One count charge slammed on him reads as follows; ”That you Emeka Akile (M) 31 years old of No16, Yaukumu Crescent, CBS Estate Lugbe Abuja, sometimes in July 2016 within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court of No 16, Yaukumu Crescent, CBS Estate, Lugbe Abuja, intentionally penetrated the virginal of one (name withheld), (F) 19 years old of No 16, Yaukumu Crescent, CBS Estate, Lugbe Abuja with your penis and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 1 of Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015”.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge and was subsequently granted bail by the Presiding Judge, Justice A.O Adeniyi in the sum of N5million with two sureties.

The case was adjourned to 16 May, 2018 for hearing.
