Liverpool legend tips England star to replace Mo Salah this summer

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson has named who he believes should replace Mohamed Salah if he leaves the club this summer.

Salah has been the subject of interest from the Saudi Pro League, who saw a summer deadline day bid of £200 million rejected for the Egyptian winger.

The chosen destination for the 31-year-old, if a transfer comes off, appears to be Al Ittihad, who already have Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante and Salah’s former Liverpool team-mate Fabinho among their ranks.

Bloomberg, though, claim that the Saudi Pro League will cut back spending this summer in order to create a more sustainable transfer market environment that encompasses player sales.

However, a move for Salah, who will enter the final 12 months of his contract this summer, could be too much to resist as the Saudi Arabian top flight looks to add another elite marquee player.

And former Reds centre-back Lawrenson, who won five First Division titles and a European Cup with Liverpool in the 1980s, has named who he believes should replace the Egyptian if he departs Anfield.

Lawrenson says that Liverpool should target a move for West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, who has 14 goals to his name in 28 league appearances this term – his highest Premier League tally in a single season.

The former long-serving BBC pundit told Paddy Power: “He can play in all three positions across the front line, gets you goals and works hard. You’re not going to get another Mo Slah.

“The other thing he gives you is that he works extremely hard defensively. He wasn’t great at it when he joined, but he’s improved on it.

“Anyone could join, but I think he [Salah] will leave, no doubt about that whatsoever.

“As for who replaces for him, I’m not sure how much money Liverpool will have. They need another centre-back and that might be their first priority – it’s not just a matter of who replaces Salah for me.”
