Former Nigerian Minister of Sports, Hon Damishi Sango, has lamented the worsening state of insecurity of lives and properties in the country, saying “No one is secured in Nigeria.”
Sango made the remarks yesterday amidst tears during the funeral ceremony for late Sgt. Habila Makbam, a policeman attached to the minister’s residence in Ganawuri, Riyom local government, Plateau state, North-Central Nigeria.
Late Sgt. Makbam was killed last week when some unknown gunmen attacked the residence of the former minister.
The gunmen shot three persons during the attack, including two policemen attached to the house and the driver to the minister. But Sgt Makbam did not survive the gun wound as he died later at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH)
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain said, “If gunmen can attack my house as a former minister in spite of the security I have in place, what about other Nigerians who don’t have security attached to them.
“This shows no one is safe in this country, no one is secured as expected of government whose primary responsibility is to secure lives and properties of citizens”
Narrating how the attack was carried out, Sango said. “At about 9:15pm of 31/3/2021, I heard sporadic gunshots in my residence. I attempted to come out but was pleaded to hold for a while. On getting out later, I saw Mr. Habila, his other colleague and my driver in pool of blood. Immediately, I directed them to be rushed to Vom Christian Hospital after which they were referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) where Habila gave up.

Rev. Budadi Taki who led the funeral service at Church of Christ in Nation (COCIN) Rakun-Belleng, Jos South local government of Plateau state took his message from 1 Kings 18:1-19 with the title “who is the troubler of Nigeria and Plateau State?”
Rev Taki said, “The church and Christian politicians should not relent in praying to God Almighty to intervene in the security situation in the country. We can’t fold our arms and allow the enemies of this country to bring the country down.
The deceased was later laid to rest at his family residence in Raku-Belleng.
The 35 year old Sgt. Makbam left behind his wife, little boy, mother and other siblings to mourn him.
