INEC declares Babajide Sanwo-Olu of APC as winner of Lagos governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has declared Mr. Babjide Sanwo-Olu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the gubernatorial election conducted in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria on March 18, 2023.

Mr. Sanwo-Olu, who is the incumbent governor of the commercial nerve centre of Nigeria, won the election with a total of 762,134 votes out of the 1173631 votes cast during the election, according to the INEC Returning officer, Adenike Oladiji.

The Returning Officer, while announcing the result in the early hours of today, said that the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, came second with 312,329 votes, followed by that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran, who polled 62,449 votes.

According to the Returning Officer, Mr Sanwo-Olu also scored 25 percent of the total number of votes and also the highest number of votes in the race.

In addition, she said Mr. Sanwo-Olu cleared 19 out of the 20 local government areas of the state, as well as polled the highest number of votes in Ikeja, Apapa, Badagry, Lagos Island, Epe, Agege, Ibeju-lekki, Kosofe, Surulere and Somolu.

The APC flagbearer also polled the highest number of votes in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos Mainland, Alimosho, Ojo, Ikorodu, Mushin and Oshodi-Isolo and Eti-Osa, according to the INEC Returning Officer.

She said that the LP candidate, Mr Rhodes-Vicour polled the highest number of votes in one local government area, which is Amuwo-Odofin.

The INEC Returning Officer further gave a detailed breakdown of the of the results as follows:
