Nigerian legal practitioner, Dr Kayode Ajulo, has praised President Muhammadu Buhari’s Independence broadcast to the nation, calling it “inspiring.”
He did, however, advise that terrorism’s funders be identified in order to reduce the threat.
“The recent arrests of Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Adeyemo (Ighogho), and further investigations being conducted, expose certain high-profile funders behind these individuals,” the president said in a Friday broadcast.
He went on to say that the government was “vigorously investigating these financiers, including one who is a serving member of the national assembly.”
Buhari, on the other hand, remained tight-lipped about the funders’ identities.
In response, Ajulo, a former National Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that it had become critical to identify the sponsors of insecurity.
“The sponsors should be identified, caught, and prosecuted to the full extent of the law; we must identify and prosecute them in accordance with the law.
Nigerians have been assured of the government’s uttermost commitment to security since the beginning of this administration, which the Federal Government has relentlessly pursued.
“We need to be reassured, which is why terrorism sponsors must be identified and dealt with appropriately,” he said.
He said that security agencies must be assisted by all to dominate the nation’s security space against invasion by terrorists and other criminals.
Reacting to the president’s pledge to expand opportunities for more youths, Ajulo said that youths must be engaged positively as they were the present and future of the nation.“Youth interventions should be all encompassing; there should be a holistic engagement,” he declared.
The president had acknowledged the youths as “great propellants for today and guarantee for a secured tomorrow.“
“It is for this reason that I remain focused on expanding opportunities for their participation in politics and governance.“
“Recent appointments of young people into positions of authority and their track records so far, give me confidence that we need to bring more of them into governance. I promise to do more of this,” he said.
