Former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki has urged Nigerians to embrace peace, inclusion, and unity as the country marks its 61st anniversary of independence.

Turaki, a Nigerian Senior Advocate, emphasized that, given the country’s variety, Nigeria is stronger when all ethnic groups work together to promote its development.

In a statement released by his media office in Abuja on Thursday, the former Presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity as the country celebrates its 61st birthday.

“We are more powerful when we work together. We’ve always been that way.

“However, as we mark our 61st anniversary, we must see beyond our own ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic perspectives to recognize that each individual, community, and state has a critical role to play in building the Nigeria of our dreams.

“As compatriots, we must all stand and serve our motherland with complete devotion.

“We can’t keep looking at one other with suspicion because we originate from different places or worship God in different ways.

“We must recognize that our nation was ordained by Almighty Allah, and we must work together to maintain and preserve it,” Turaki stated.

The former Minister prayed for Nigeria’s authorities and citizenry to be guided in their decisions.

Nigeria, its leaders, and population, the former Minister prayed, will be guided so that they might achieve their full potential.

He argued that the event provided adequate opportunity for serious, somber contemplation on the nation’s 61-year history of unity and strategies to move the country forward.

“We must pray for Almighty Allah’s involvement in areas such as instability, the economy, and other factors that have a significant impact on our people’s lives.

He concluded, “May Almighty Allah continue to bless our country Nigeria.”
