Group hails new Board of NDDC, welcomes retention of Ogbuku as MD

The appointment of a new Board for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been described by the South South Reawakening Group (SSRG), and the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas as a welcome initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Convener of the SSRG, Joseph Ambakederimo, who is also the Convener of the and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas, made this known in a statement issued in Port Harcourt today.

According to Ambakederimo, “we wholeheartedly commend President Tinubu for his visionary and strategic decision to reappoint the highly capable Dr. Samuel Ogbuku as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the . In addition, we applaud his judicious selection of other eminent Nigerians who will serve as invaluable members of the new Governing Board of the NDDC.”

He said in a statement that the SSRG and the Community Development Committees of Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas were pleased to witness Dr. Ogbuku’s continuation at the helm of the Commission for another term, pointing out that Ogbuku’s first tenure showcased remarkable competence, extensive experience, and unwavering integrity in his role as the MD/CEO of the NDDC.

“Driven by his leadership, the NDDC spearheaded exploration of collaboration on numerous infrastructural, environmental, social, and economic projects across the nine states of the Niger Delta region. These projects encompassed the construction of roads, bridges, educational institutions, medical facilities, power generation plants, water distribution systems, agricultural initiatives, skill development centers, youth empowerment programs, and vital environmental restoration undertakings,” he noted.

“The commitment to transparency and accountability was further strengthened during this tenure, as the NDDC embraced international best practices in project management, procurement, auditing, and reporting. Collaborative efforts with key stakeholders, including the Federal Government, State Governments, National Assembly, Oil and Gas Industry, Civil Society Organizations, Traditional Rulers, Community Leaders, and the esteemed people of the Niger Delta region, contributed to the successful implementation of our endeavors.

“We have unwavering confidence in the capabilities of Dr. Ogbuku and his esteemed colleagues on the Board to continue steering the Commission towards fulfilling its mandate. This mandate entails the facilitation of rapid, balanced, and sustainable development within the Niger Delta region—a vision that encompasses economic prosperity, social harmony, ecological renewal, and political stability.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to President Tinubu for his discernment in recognizing the expertise, experience, and integrity embodied by Dr. Ogbuku and other esteemed Board members.
