Group calls for sack of JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede

A group, known as the Concerned Citizens Coalition, has called on the Federal Government to remove the Registrar and Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Prof. Ishaq Oloyede for his alleged ineptitude, maladministration and misdirection at the Board.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, the National Coordinator of the group, Comr. Solomon Adodo, said the sour tinge of the shoddy, tawdry and herculean processes which characterized the conduct of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination still lingers in the minds of students (who sat for the examinations), parents/guardians and relevant stakeholders.
According to the group, “the poor outing by the JAMB Registrar – Prof. Ishaq Oloyede – and his Team only give further credence to the fact that Prof. Oloyede as JAMB Registrar can only be likened to a round peg in a square hole. It has become more evident that the Registrar is not concerned about placing parameters for quality education via the professional conduct of the UTME, he is rather concentrating on aspects of money making at the expense of Nigeria’s golden future.”
While lamenting that the registration process was flawed and cumbersome thus detracting from the quality time candidates should have taken in making adequate preparations, the group also noted that the examination proper was riddled with malpractices which the Registrar tacitly admitted even though he proceeded to shift blames and make empty promises.
“Thus, the place of merit and scholarship was hugely compromised. The fact that candidates had to go through the pains of economic hardship and risks traveling across States to sit for the examinations even though better options could have been emplaced is not acceptable. Ordinarily, the Registrar is expected to have resigned after this baldfaced show of poor performance,” it said.
“As concerned citizens, we can no longer fold our arms and watch while the very fabric of our educational system is being eaten away at the roots we have therefore decided to bring our save education SOS to the attention of the Honorable Minister of Education who is a man of discipline and impeccable records. We call on the Federal Ministry of Education not to turn the other way while JAMB and the future of our nation is being decimated,” said the group.
It therefore urged the federal government to ensure that the JAMB Registrar is sacked from office forthwith to pave way for the sanitization of the system.
“We cannot afford a repeat of this academic erosion again and only the timely intervention of the Ministry will save our educational system from drowning further. Please rescue JAMB from Prof. Oloyede! Rescue our educational system from the fast entrenching rot!! Secure the future and development of our dear nation – Nigeria,” it stated.
