Bauchi Start Governor, Bala Mohammed, has vowed to decisively deal with people importing bandits to Toro Local Government Area and other parts of the State.
He said that although Toro used to be a safe haven for bandits who have caused mayhem to the people however, he said his administration I’m collaboration with traditional rulers have tackled the menace headlong.
The governor therefore, charged the people not to allow “merchants of bandits” to destabilize the peace they now enjoy.
He stated this while flagging off the construction of 2.10 km Rimin Zayam township roads in Toro Local Government Area worth over N4 billion on Thursday.
“We have brought security by the grace of Allah, together with our traditional leaders in the State. Toro used to be impossible but by the grace of Allah, it is not with pride that we have been able to do it.
“Those people that are importing bandits, because they are merchants of bandits and they have been given space to occupy in Toro, they should not bring back bandits.
“I am telling you, we know them and we are dealing with them decisively. And even those merchants of bandits, we are closing on them. When we get them, they will know the full weight of Kauran Bauchi (Bauchi Governor).
“I am telling you that we will not put security as a second place, security is very important, development is very important,” he assured.
Governor Mohammed stated that Toro, its villages and the entire Bauchi South Senatorial District, have been abandoned and neglected for so many years despite the fact that it has been producing Goverrnors who have led the State since the return to democracy in 1999.
“You did so much to ensure that I came back for second term. I have opened up so many cancerous roads, roads that have never been contemplated. Nobody ever thought there would be a road from here to Palama-Dass. People in Tulu in thousands and multitudes living in abject poverty and squalor and nobody remembered them and they are still part of the nation and this state.
“Lame Town is the bedrock of Toro itself has been neglected for over 100 years and Rimin Zayam is a historical town. Toro is also the headquarters of our District Head.
“We intend to build township roads in all our district head headquarters so that we can modernize our living, we can improve the quality of the living of our people,” he stated.
The Governor said that whatever project he is doing in Toro is to reciprocate the kind gesture done to him by the people in the past assuring them that “whatever position I find myself because of what you have done to me, I will never forget the people of Toro.”
