The Africa Leadership Forum (ALF) is Africas premier civil society organization. The forum grew out of the need to assist in improving the capacity and competence of African leaders to tackle development challenges confronting Africa. The establishment of ALF was not fortuitous. It was in response to a number of pressing, challenges facing post-independence Africa. The motivation behind the setting up of ALF was the widespread and palpable crises of leadership and management across Africa. Part of ALF’s mission is to develop leadership capacities in Africa in order to increase the productivity of major actors in government, parliament, business and civil society to create enabling conditions for the development of the continent in an environment of peace, stability and security.

  • The Gender and Development Research Specialist will work closely with the Coordinator of the ALF Centre for Gender Equality and Research and support all gender activities of the organisation.
  • The specialist will provide technical support in developing and implementing women-specific projects and possess the requisite research skills to conduct women-specific research on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Centre Coordinator in developing and implementing the organisation’s gender strategy, ensuring alignment with regional and international gender equality frameworks.
  • Conduct research on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment, including data collection, analysis, and report writing.
  • Provide technical support and capacity building to staff and partners on gender mainstreaming and women’s rights.
  • Provide technical support in developing and implementing gender-related projects, including designing project proposals, budgets, and monitoring and evaluation plans.
  • Collaborate with other organisations and stakeholders specialised in gender equality to share best practices and lessons learned when necessary
  • Provide support in monitoring and evaluating the impact of gender mainstreaming efforts on the organisation’s programs and advocacy initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Development Studies, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in development research, with a focus on Gender Equality and Women Empowerment.
  • Strong understanding of regional and international gender equality frameworks and their implications for programming.
  • Experience in designing and implementing women-specific projects, including project management and monitoring and evaluation
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely
  • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of other languages spoken in Africa is an asset
