Gani Adams urges Ooni to organize security conference for traditional rulers

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Chief Gani Adams, has charged the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, to organises a conference for traditional rulers where security for their communities will be discussed.

Adams gave the charge during his courtesy visit to the Ooni on Wednesday in his Palace, in Ile-Ife.

He said it’s a taboo, shameful and sad for the traditional rulers to be attacked and killed anyhow in Yorubaland.

The Aare Ona Kakanfo condemned the recent killing of Onimojo of Imojo-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun-Ekiti, Oba David Ogunsakin, who were returning from a peaceful routine meeting in Oke Ako, Ekiti State.

According to him, all hands should be on deck to fight kidnappers and terrorists disrupting the peace of the land.

Adams said that government alone cannot handle insecurity in Nigeria, saying that security is everyone’s business.

“We must be ready to cooperate and support security operatives.

“Security should not be politicised; as a governor cannot come down to deal with everything going on within the community.

“Royal fathers who are closer to their people, must have a role to play in taming insecurity.

“Any violence within a community should be handled by the traditional ruler there, for he’ll be blamed for the destruction of lives and properties in his domain.

“Therefore, there should be a conference that would involve all traditional rulers in Yorubaland to discuss insecurity.”

Responding, Oba Ogunwusi, represented by the Obalufe of Ifeland, Oba Idowu Adediwura, appreciated Adams for promoting yoruba cultural heritage.

The Ooni called on Yorubas to ensure that they work together in unity to overcome their common enemies.
