Forgotten Man Utd starlet set to return to Old Trafford from loan spell with club ‘not pleased’

Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri is set to return to the club this summer after a challenging loan spell with Sevilla, it has been reported.

The Tunisia international was a regular member of Erik ten Hag’s squad during the first part of the season, making 10 appearances.

However, the majority of those appearances were from the bench, with United deciding to allow the 21-year-old to get more game time out on loan.

Sevilla agreed a deal to bring the midfielder to Spain on a temporary basis until the end of the season, and had a £17 million optional future fee clause inserted into the deal.

However, the loan hasn’t gone as planned.

Mejbri has played just 91 minutes of football since his arrival, and was left out of the squad entirely for Sevilla’s 1-0 defeat to Getafe.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, the 21-year-old will now return to Old Trafford instead of signing permanently with Sevilla.

And Spanish outlet AS claim that United are not pleased with the midfielder’s loan spell, while Sevilla have also underused Tottenham loanee Alejo Veliz in a similar fashion.

Speaking about Mejbri shortly after his arrival, Sevilla boss Quique Sanchez Flores said: “After being with him, talking to him and having seen his first minutes in Girona, we are going to give him the necessary space to understand where he is, that he is at Sevilla, and what it means.

“He has to know where he is, and we want to see him. We have spoken with him and we believe that he has to have some time to learn.

“We wanted to give him space, time for him to see things from the outside and then he will return to the squad.”

Hannibal spent last season at Championship side Birmingham, where he made 38 appearances for the Blues and provided five assists from midfield.
