The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said about 5,642 eligible voters are expected to vote in Saturday’s Jigawa re-run election.
The state INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Muhammad Bashar, said this when he spoke with newsmen in Dutse on Friday.
Bashar said that the re-run would hold in Birninkudu/Buji Federal Constituency.
He said that the election would be conducted in eight polling units in five Registration Areas, with seven in Birninkudu Local Government Area (LGA) and one in Buji LGA.
“INE is fully prepared for all these processes up to their conclusions tomorrow, when votes will be cast, collated and result announced.
“Total number of registered voters for the election is 5,689 while a total of 5,642 PVCs are collected in the constituency,” he said.
The REC added that 32 ad hoc staff, as well as some staff of the commission would conduct the election.
“And we’ve already dispatched non-sensitive materials to the affected LGA, while the sensitive ones will be dispatched latter in the day in the presence of all political parties involved,” he said.
He said that the commission had met with stakeholders under the Interagency Consultative Committee to ensure a hitch free election.
“We’ve mapped out coherent strategy to safeguard the conduct of the election and we’ve been assured by the CP that each polling unit will be guarded by 30 policemen, while other security agents will monitor in each polling unit and coalition centre where results will be announced.
“All that’s needed to be done has already been done to ensure free and fair election,” the INEC said.
