Fayemi elected Governor of Ekiti State

The All Progressives Congress (APC)  candidate in the gubernatorial election Ekiti State, South-West Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has won the election held on Saturday polling 178,913 votes while Kolapo Olusola of the  Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 178,114 votes.

Fayemi, who waas until three months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Minister of Solid Minerals Development, won in 12 LGAs out of 16, winning the mandatory 25 percent of votes in two-third of the states. It was a close call in an election fraught with fraud, violence, open  votes-buying.

The election witnessed a large turnout of voters and early arrival of the ad hoc staff and supervisors of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at polling units.

INEC officials worked all night to tally the results.

23.53pm – OFFICIAL: The final result for Efon Alaye LGA. APC: 5028; PDP: 5129

 

00.37am – OFFICIAL: The final result for Gbonyin LGA. APC: 11498; PDP: 8027

 

00.39am – OFFICIAL: The final result for Ido Osi LGA. APC: 12342; PDP: 11145
