The office of Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed announced on Friday the appointment of Mamo Mihretu as the new governor of the National Bank of Ethiopia.

Mihretu is currently the chief executive officer of Ethiopian Investment Holdings (EIH), a strategic investment arm of Ethiopia’s government responsible for providing professional oversight and optimizing commercial assets.

Mihretu is replacing Yinager Dessie, who served as central bank governor since 2018.

The prime minister also announced the nomination of new ministers of the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, Ministry of Mines and Petroleum and Ministry of Agriculture. The appointments are expected to be approved by the Ethiopian parliament in the coming few days.

Ahmed also announced direct appointments of several other officials to various positions in his administration with immediate effect.  Xinhua
